PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D’AZUR REGIONAL OVERVIEWOF NUCLEAR SAFETY AND RADIATION PROTECTION Gammaster ioniser Since 2008, the company Stéris has been operating an industrial irradiator called Gammaster situated in the municipality of Marseille. Gammaster treats products by ionisation (emission of gamma radiation) with the aim of sanitising (disinfecting) or sterilising materials or improving their performance. The facility is made up of an industrial bunker and houses sealed sources of cobalt-60 which provide the radiation necessary for its activity. ASN considers that the standard of safety of Gammaster in 2018 remains satisfactory. The licensee must nevertheless continue its efforts regarding the management of maintenance operations.
