These two reactors will be the subject of a specific periodic safety review. łŅ ŇĻĸ łŇĻĸŅ ӆӅׇŅĸĴĶŇłŅņё ŇĻĸŅĸ ĴŅĸ Ĵ ŁňŀĵĸŅ łĹ ŃĴŅŇļĶňĿĴŅ implications in this fourth periodic safety review: Ҋ Some items of equipment are reaching their design- basis lifetime. The studies concerning the conformity of the installations and the management of equipment ageing therefore need to be reviewed to take account of the degradation mechanisms actually observed and the ŀĴļŁŇĸŁĴŁĶĸ ĴŁķ ŅĸŃĿĴĶĸŀĸŁŇ ņŇŅĴŇĸĺļĸņ ļŀŃĿĸŀĸŁŇĸķ ĵŌ є Ҋ The modifications associated with this periodic safety review will enable the integration of the modifications specified by ĹłĿĿłŊļŁĺ ŇĻĸ ňľňņĻļŀĴ ĴļļĶĻļ ĴĶĶļķĸŁŇ Ňł ĵĸ completed on these reactors. Ҋ The safety reassessment of these reactors and the resulting improvements must be carried out by comparison with the new-generation reactors, such as the EPR, the design of which meets significantly reinforced safety requirements. It is currently preparing its position regarding the continued operation of the other ӄёӆӃӃׇ ĸ ŅĸĴĶŇłŅņє The third periodic safety review At the beginning of 2015, ASN issued a position statement on ŇĻĸ ĺĸŁĸŅļĶ ĴņŃĸĶŇņ łĹ ŇĻĸ ĶłŁŇļŁňĸķ łŃĸŅĴŇļłŁ łĹ ŇĻĸ ӄёӆӃӃׇ ĸ reactors beyond thirty years of operation. ASN considers that ŇĻĸ ņŇĸŃņ ŇĴľĸŁ łŅ ŃĿĴŁŁĸķ ĵŌ Ňł Ĵņņĸņņ ŇĻĸ ņŇĴŇĸ łĹ ļŇņ ӄёӆӃӃׇ ĸ ŅĸĴĶŇłŅņ ĴŁķ ŀĴŁĴĺĸ ŇĻĸļŅ ĴĺĸļŁĺ ňŃ Ňł ŇĻĸ ĹłňŅŇĻ periodic safety review are acceptable. ASN also considers that ŇĻĸ ŀłķļĹļĶĴŇļłŁņ ļķĸŁŇļĹļĸķ ĵŌ ĹłĿĿłŊļŁĺ ŇĻļņ ņŇňķŌ ŃĻĴņĸ will help to significantly improve the safety of these installations. These improvements in particular concern reinforcing protection łĹ ŇĻĸ ĹĴĶļĿļŇļĸņ ĴĺĴļŁņŇ ĻĴōĴŅķņё ŅĸķňĶļŁĺ ŅĸĿĸĴņĸņ łĹ ŅĴķļłĴĶŇļʼnĸ substances in the event of an accident, with or without core melt, and preventing the risk of uncovering of the fuel assemblies stored in the spent fuel pit or during handling. ňŅŇĻĸŅ Ňł ŇĻĸ ĶłŁĶĿňņļłŁņ łĹ ŇĻĸ ĺĸŁĸŅļĶ ŃĻĴņĸ łĹ ŇĻļņ ŅĸʼnļĸŊё ASN intends to issue additional generic binding requirements ļŁ ӅӃӅӃׇĴŃŃĿļĶĴĵĿĸ Ňł ĴĿĿ ŇĻĸ ӄёӆӃӃׇ ĸ ŅĸĴĶŇłŅņё ŊļŇĻ ŇĻĸ Ĵļŀ of reinforcing their safety.
