!ƺȇɎȸƏƬȒ ȵǼƏȇɎ Áǝƺ !ƺȇɎȸƏƬȒ ȵǼƏȇɎ ٢ zX ژ ה ٣ً ɯƏɀ ƬȸƺƏɎƺƳ ǣȇ ژהחח ƏȇƳ ǣɀ operated by Cyclife France, a 100% subsidiary of EDF. The purpose of the Centraco plant is to sort, decontaminate, reuse, treat and package –particularly by reducing their volume– waste and effluents with low levels of radioactivity. The waste resulting from the plant’s processes is then routed to Andra’s Aube respository (CSA). The facility comprises: • Ə ȅƺǼɎǣȇǕ ɖȇǣɎً ȅƺǼɎǣȇǕ Ə ȅƏɴǣȅɖȅ Ȓǔ ב ً ד ژ ɎȒȇȇƺɀ Ȓǔ metallic waste per year; • an incineration unit, incinerating a maximum of ב ً ژ ɎȒȇȇƺɀ Ȓǔ ɀȒǼǣƳ ɯƏɀɎƺ ƏȇƳ א ً ژ ɎȒȇȇƺɀ Ȓǔ ǼǣȷɖǣƳ waste per year; and • storage areas. ASN considers that the level of nuclear safety and radiation protection in the facility is on the whole satisfactory. The licensee must nevertheless comply with the provisions of ³z ȸƺɀȒǼɖɎǣȒȇ א ٮ!(ٮו ژאחד Ȓǔ ژב hɖȇƺ א ژו ȸƺǼƏɎǣɮƺ ɎȒ Ɏǝƺ ȒƫǼǣǕƏɎǣȒȇɀ Ȓǔ zX ژ ǼǣƬƺȇɀƺƺɀ ɯǣɎǝ ȸƺǕƏȸƳ ɎȒ ƺȅƺȸǕƺȇƬɵ ɀǣɎɖƏɎǣȒȇ preparedness andmanagement and the content of the on-site emergency plan, and improve its in-service monitoring of pressure equipment. In 2019, the licensee submitted a facility modification request to the competent administrations (ASN, the Minister responsible for nuclear safety and the Prefect of the Gard), with a view to widening the range of waste that can be treated by the facility. The examination of this request has revealed shortcomings concerning the nature of the waste treated and consideration of the flood risk, making it necessary to revise the project. JƏȅȅƏɎƺƬ ǣȒȇǣɀƺȸ Áǝƺ JƏȅȅƏɎƺƬ ǣȒȇǣɀƺȸ ٢ zX ژ ו ٣ً ǣɀ Əȇ ǣȇƳɖɀɎȸǣƏǼ ǣȸȸƏƳǣƏɎȒȸ operated by the company Stéris since 2013. Gammatec treats products by ionisation (emission of gamma radiation) with the aim of sterilising them or improving their performance. The installation consists of an industrial bunker and an experimental bunker. Both bunkers contain sealed sources Ȓǔ ƬȒƫƏǼɎ הٮ ژ ɯǝǣƬǝ ȵȸȒɮǣƳƺ Ɏǝƺ ȸƏƳǣƏɎǣȒȇ ȇƺƬƺɀɀƏȸɵ ǔȒȸ Ɏǝƺ ǔƏƬǣǼǣɎɵ ټ ɀ ژ ƏƬɎǣɮǣɎɵِ ASN considers that the level of nuclear safety and radiation protection of Gammatec remained satisfactory in 2019. The licensee must nevertheless improve the management of the facility’s radioactive sources and of emergency situations, as much with regard to safety as to the security of the sources. 1Ƭȸǣȇ ǔƏƬǣǼǣɎɵ Áǝƺ 1Ƭȸǣȇ ǔƏƬǣǼǣɎɵ ٢ zX ژ דו ٣ً ǣɀ ɀǣɎɖƏɎƺƳ ɯǣɎǝǣȇ Ɏǝƺ xƏǼɮƻɀǣ ȵǼƏȇɎ operated by Orano Cycle in the municipality of Narbonne in the Aude département . The Malvési plant transforms the concentrates from the uranium mines into uranium tetrafluoride, which represents the first step in the fabrication of a uranium-based nuclear fuel (excluding extraction of the ore). The transformation process produces liquid effluents containing nitrated sludges loaded with natural uranium, which are decanted and evaporated in lagoons in the facility. The entire Malvesi plant is subject to the system governing Seveso high-threshold Installations Classified for Protection of the Environment. ȇƬƺ ƏǼǼ Ɏǝǣɀ work is completed, a bituminous cover will be put in place Ȓɮƺȸ Ɏǝƺ zX ژ ƫƏɀǣȇɀِ Furthermore, in the French National Radioactive Material and Waste Management Plan (PNGMDR), ASN asked Orano Cycle to study the various long-term disposal options for the waste contained in the Écrin facility. These studies are currently being examined. ASN considers that the level of nuclear safety and environmental protection of the Écrin facility is satisfactory.
