7th ENSREG Conference: ‘Responding to the growing interest in nuclear energy’

The 7th Conference of the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) was held in Brussels on 24 and 25 June. With around thirty speakers, the conference was attended by over 200 participants
Co-organised by a steering committee composed of representatives of several European safety authorities (including ASN) and the European Commission, the conference brought together a wide range of international stakeholders, including NEA, IAEA, WENRA, HERCA, ASN, STUK, SSM, ANVS, US NRC, nucleareurope, EDF, Nuward, Newcleo and others.
The theme of the conference was: ‘Responding to the growing interest in nuclear energy’. Contributions were made on four topics: adapting regulation to this new context; managing skills and capacity in the nuclear sector, particularly among regulators; the challenges and impacts of climate change; and the role of regulators and industry in licensing and developing small modular reactors and innovative modular reactors.
This 7th edition of the Conference brought together operators, industry, NGOs, the European Commission and Member States, together with European nuclear safety and radiation protection authorities and some of their counterparts from outside the European Union, to discuss the collective progress and challenges in nuclear safety.
