Event in the turbine hall of the Flamanville 1 nuclear power plant

Flamanville nuclear power plant - France

The Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) was informed on February 9 of an event at the Flamanville nuclear power plant.

A blast and a fire outbreak at a ventilator located below the alternator occurred the 9th of February, 2017 around 9:45 AM in the non-nuclear area (turbine hall) of the reactor n°1.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the EDF personnel.

No one was seriously injured because of the event and there are no consequences on nuclear safety and the environment.

The operator decided to stop production at the reactor n°1.

The ASN will require that EDF provide a complete analysis of the causes and consequences of the event.
