Appointment of Sophie Mourlon, Deputy Director-General of the ASN, as Chair of the Steering Technical Committee of the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP)

Since January 2014, Sophie Mourlon, Deputy Director-General of the ASN, chairs the Steering Technical Committee (STC) of the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP). The STC oversees the work of technical groups within the MDEP.
Sophie MOURLON chaired the 23th STC meeting which was held on 13 and 16 May 2014 on the side of the MDEP Conference in the Washington area (United States).
The MDEP programme currently comprises regulators from 14 countries where construction projects of new reactors are under way including ASN (France), US NRC (United States), STUK (Finland), RTN (Russian Federation), ONR (United Kingdom), FANR (United Arab Emirates), NRA (Japan), NNSA (China), NRR (South Africa) and AERB (India).
Created in 2006 the MDEP is an international initiative with the aim of developing innovative approaches to leverage the resources and knowledge of national regulatory authorities reviewing new reactor power plant designs. One of the key goals of this forum is to contribute to the harmonisation and implementation of safety standards.
