Ms Lydie Evrard is appointed to the ASN commission

Ms Lydie Evrard has been appointed to the ASN Commission for 6 years by a decree of the French President dated 6 March 2017, as the member appointed by the President of the Senate. She replaces Philippe Jamet, whose mandate ended on 15 December 2016.

Lydie Evrard, 44 years, is a graduate of Ecole de Mines, the French national mining engineering school, with the title of Chief Engineer. Prior to receiving this appointment, she was interministerial delegate for standards and deputy director for standardisation, product regulation and metrology in the General directorate for enterprises at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. She chaired the interministerial standards group and was Government commissioner to AFNOR (French standards association), COFRAC (French accreditation committee) and the LNE (National metrology and tests laboratory).

She has previously held positions within ASN, first as deputy head of the Paris division (2006-2009), then as director of the waste, research facilities and fuel cycle division (2010-2013). In this latter role she jointly coordinated - with the Ministry responsible for energy - the preparation of the French national radioactive material and waste management plan (PNGMDR).

Ms Evrard began her career in the hydrocarbons department of the General directorate for energy and raw materials at the Ministry responsible for energy. She then occupied various positions in the areas of industrial risk prevention and economic development.

This appointment brings the ASN commission to its full complement. The commission comprises five commissioners, including the ASN Chairman. The commissioners are appointed for a term of six years. The President of the Republic appoints three commissioners while the Presidents of the two parliamentary assemblies each appoint one commissioner.

By law, the members of the Commission act with complete impartiality, receiving no instructions from either the Government or any other person or institution. They exercise their functions on a full-time basis and their mandate is neither renewable nor revocable.

The Commission develops the ASN strategy and doctrine for the regulation of nuclear safety and radiation protection. It issues resolutions embodying the most important decisions. It takes public positions on the major issues that lie within the competence of ASN. It reports to the French Parliament.
